Barolo Mantoetto- Umberto Fracassi - Cherasco CN)

The Barolo "Mantoetto" from the cellar of Marchese Umberto Fracassi is a unique piece of liquid history within the Langhe panorama. Produced in Cherasco, in the hamlet of San Michele, it hails from an exclusive micro-subzone—Mantoetto—which boasts a winemaking tradition spanning over 150 years and is historically the only official Barolo Cru located within this municipality. This specific Cru sits on a clay-limestone hill free of chalky veins, constantly caressed by a steady breeze. These distinct terroir characteristics grant the Fracassi Nebbiolo an old-world elegance and an unmistakable identity, set apart from the Barolos of the opposite bank of the Tanaro River.

Visually, it captivates with a classic, brilliant, and deep garnet red color, embellished with warm orange highlights that develop beautifully during long aging in the historic large oak casks of the Cherasco cellar. On the nose, the aroma is regally austere yet velvety: it opens with intense notes of dried violets and roses, before expanding into fruity hints of plum, sour cherry, cherry jam, and redcurrant. The finish reveals a noble, spicy complexity with distinct notes of licorice, tobacco, and the fascinating, characteristic touch of goudron (tar) and medicinal herbs.

On the palate, it reveals itself as broad, robust, and movingly harmonious. The sip is dry, full, and extraordinarily velvety, filling the mouth with warmth and rich texture. The tannins are noble and vibrant, yet perfectly integrated into the wine's body, leaving a light and pleasant astringent vibration on the finish that gracefully fades. This Barolo relies on its impeccable balance and mineral freshness, offering an intense aromatic persistence and exceptional longevity.

At the table, it demands dishes of great stature: exceptional with traditional tajarin in mountain butter topped with a generous shaving of Alba White Truffle, great Piedmontese braised meats, wild game, and fondue. It also pairs divinely with premium aged local cheeses (such as Castelmagno DOP or Bra Duro).
